The collision occurred in Middlesex County around 7:45 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11 in Middletown on South Main Street in the area of Round Hill Road.
According to Middletown Police Chief Erik Costa, a black sedan was traveling north on South Main Street and struck the rear of a tow truck traveling north as well.
Officers located a 3-year-old child in the rear of the sedan and a woman trapped in the driver’s seat.
The child had no obvious injuries but the woman was unresponsive, Costa said.
Police Officers and medical personnel removed the driver from the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures but she died on scene, the chief said.
The child was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford for evaluation.
The tow truck operator was not injured during the collision.
The occupant names and vehicle details are not being released at this time.
The crash is being investigated by the Middletown Police Department’s Traffic Division.
